Tucson Tummy Tucks

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a procedure used by cosmetic surgeons to remove and reduce the amount of excess abdominal skin and fat that can result from large-scale weight loss, genetics, pregnancy, and/or the natural aging process.Tummy tuck surgery, cosmetic surgeons agree, can also be used to tighten the abdominal muscles, helping to smooth and tone the midsection, allowing tummy tuck patients a chance to have a smoother, more youthful midsection. Tummy tucks can be performed in a number of ways on both men and women. Your surgeon will work with you to select the right procedure for you based on factors such as your abdomen size and shape and to amount of tissue you wish to have removed. The best solution will produce excellent body sculpting with the least amount of scarring. The most widely performed types of abdominoplasty include: traditional abdominoplasty, mini- tummy tuck, endoscopic abdominoplasty, and a technique known as the extended tummy tuck.

The traditional abdominoplasty is a widely-used technique that works well for patients with a large amount of tissue that needs to be removed. Plastic surgeons first make a horizontal incision, then the belly button is then removed, and the muscles of the abdominal wall are then surgically tightened. Any extra fat and skin is removed at this time, then the surgeon pulls the remaining skin downward, creating a new belly button and closing the incision.

Your plastic surgeon will probably place drainage tubes temporarily to remove excess fluid and encourage healing.
Patients without a lot of extra abdominal skin or protruding muscle may benefit from what is known as a mini tummy tuck. This procedure uses a smaller incision and typically does not require removing and repositioning the navel. Other than that, this procedure is similar to the techniques used in a traditional tummy tuck.
Patients who wish to address their love handles or excess fat deposits in the lower back, may benefit from an extended abdominoplasty. The incision spans the entire length of the abdomen and continues around to the back of the hips. Any excess tissue is removed, the abdominal wall is tightened, and the navel is replaced.

An Endoscopic Abdominoplasty is an excellent option for patients who have protruding abdominal muscles, but not a lot of excess tissue. The procedure may leave behind fewer scars when compared to other techniques. Long, thin instruments and a lighted endoscope are inserted through small incisions around the navel and pubic bone, and abdominal muscles are tightened and sewn into place.
Right for You?

Candidates for abdominoplasty must be over eighteen years of age, with no medical conditions that would prevent them form having surgery or going under general anesthesia. They also should both physically and psychologically well, and comfortable with the possibility of surgery resulting in some visible scars.

Patients are usually put under general anesthesia for abdominoplasty, which means they are completely asleep for several hours in a hospital or surgical center while the procedure is being performed.
Patients will need to remain in the hospital for several hours or more after surgery. Temporary bruising, swelling, and post operative pain can be expected; however, pain can be managed with prescription medications administered orally or via the use of what is known as a pain pump.
